Visual artists exhibit artwork

Different sculptures and drawings were on display for guests to admire.

There is a good living to be made from visual arts. This was the message given to artists who were showcasing their work at the art exhibition ceremony held at Margate Art Museum last Friday.

Different sculptures and drawings were on display for guests to admire. Siya Madala Sotsu, unit manager of the Margate Art Museum delivered words of encouragement to the artists and said that modern art has evolved to a point where a living can be made from it.

Mr Sotsu’s sentiment was echoed by Eddie Bezuidenhout from Munster who had on display a rock that had been sculpted to take on human form.

Speaking to South Coast Herald, Mr Bezuidenhout said he was walking along the beach when he saw the rock and it did not take him long to decide what to sculpt it into.

“I started sculpting about two months ago. You have an emotion or feeling when you see the raw material and when you look at it you connect. People can see stories in rocks. Definitely, there is a living to be made out of art,” he said.

Another artist, Sean Winstanley from Ramsgate opted to paint a portrait of renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. “Picasso was a fine artist who lived in the 1900s. I decided to undertake this portrait as a sign of respect for him and his work,” he said.
