HIBBERDENE

LAST Friday’s nominated mixed trips was won by Norman Aiston, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone. Keith Mills, Miriam Seager and John Hoyer were runners-up. Session prize was awarded to Felicity van Rensburg, Maureen Jonker and Jan Snyman. Thanks to Hibberdene SuperSpar for its sponsorship. The next competition is the mixed trips on Friday afternoon, sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy.

UMTENTWENI

CONGRATULATIONS to Eric Grierson and Geoff Kelleher on winning their sections in the KBA senior singles. Geoff unfortunately succumbed in the play-offs, but Eric survived to play an excellent game, which he lost narrowly after leading for most of the game in the final.

The Abingdon Road Spar women’s 2-4-2, played on Thursday, February 27, was won by Sharolyn Dacey and Tina Barbour with 4+30. Runners-up were Marie Coetzer and Mada Lindeque with 4+23. Session prize winners were Annette Scott and Michelle Vermeulen.

The Third Avenue mixed fours (formerly John Dory’s) which was rained out recently will now be played tomorrow (Friday) at 9am.

The Harbour View mixed 2-4-2 played last Friday was won by Dennis Graham and Astrid Jackson with a comfortable 4+21. Runners-up were Bill and Linda Hobbs on 4+2. The session prize was won by Johnny Meyer and Jenny Graham with 2+8.

MARGATE CC

TWELVE teams braved the inclement weather for the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips. Unfortunately only 10 ends could be played before the rain came down. The winners were Dave Barber, Tys Pringle and Chris Faber against a relatively new team from Riverside.

Runners-up were Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Rassie Erasmus with a score of +10. Because there was only the one session, a third prize went to Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholtz and John Richards with +4.

The Hair Shoppe women’s fours last Friday was won by Jenny Rawlins, Colleen Baker, Sheenagh Dempster and Anne Payne (21+5). Runners-up were Hazel Hosken, Rosemary Esterhuizen, Audrey Faux and Louise Mann (19 + 8). The 50/50 draw winner was Mary Warner. The MCC Challenge takes place from April 3 to 5. The next women’s fours will be played on May 2.

Congratulations to Helen Proctor for reaching the finals of the KBA singles. The monthly draw was won by Natalie Herbert and second prize was won by Ann Cheetham. The social bowls planned for this Sunday has been moved to Sunday, March 30.

A special Saturday tabs is planned for this Saturday (15th) as the club is hosting the ‘ex-professional soccer’ players from upcountry. Please check the notice board for details and a list to book meals.

Check in for the draw is 8.30am. There will be no tabs that afternoon.

SOUTHBROOM

IVAN and Hazel Hosken, Norman Isherwood and Chris Haslam were the happy winners of the Mariners Restaurant open. Runners-up were Mike Gamble Graham Fisher, Steve Evans, Julia Moorley. Session winners were Dave and Rae Barber, Kevin and Hilda Tod; Ina Malan, Dirkie Pretorius, Carl Volker, Corrie Malan. The 50/50 was won by Dave Barber.

The club is proud of Heather Roberts and Chris Faber, who are representing KBA in the interdistricts tournaments.

The quiz will be held tomorrow (Friday, March 14) at 6pm for fish and chips and 6.30pm for the quiz, under the expert guidance of Beryl Lakin. Fish on the Pond men’s trips takes place this Tuesday, March 18. Eight members are currently learning plenty about bowls and bowling at the KBA Academy being held at both The Bell and Riverside Bowling Club.

Just a gentle reminder. On Sunday, March 16, the Nomads’ Christmas in March Portuguese chicken braai takes place at the Village Bowling Club. Hopefully you have all booked.

THE BELL

The next competition will be the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours tomorrow (Friday). Convenor is Tony Olivant, with catering by Penny Hartmann and Patty Mullen.

The Fruit & Veg City mixed 2-4-2 will be played this Tuesday, March 18. Convenor is Kevin Mullen, with catering by Johannie Theron and Maureen Head.

The club is very proud of the achievements of Tina Barbour, Mada Lindeque and Stan Penny, who came first, third and fourth respectively in the KBA singles. Tina has been invited to represent the district in the nationals in Johannesburg.

The list is on the board for club singles. Social bowls on Sundays will cater for new bowlers. Casual clothes are permitted but flat shoes must be worn. A coach will be available for anyone requiring introduction to the sport. Family and friends are welcome.

There is a list on the board for those wishing to play in the BMW day on March 21. If you are not in a team but wish to play, please enter your name and you will be drawn into a team. Hopefully both greens will be filled. Entrance fee is R60 for the day which includes refreshments, including lunch. There are some great prizes.

In the KBA singles played at Scottburgh on March 1 to 3, bronze medals went to Barry Payn in the men’s singles and Leoni Booth in the women’s open singles. Congratulations to Barry and Leoni, the Port Edward club applauds you both.

WINNERS of the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 held on Friday, February 28 were Atholl Robertson and Dieter Scholtz on 4+13; runners-up: Graham Dunlop and Brian Smalberger on 4+10. First session went to Trevor Heywood and Johnny Louch on 2+7; second session to Roy Baker and Vicki de Beer on 2+6.

Winners of the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 played on Friday, March 7 were Chris Forward and Ken Tonge, with runners-up Roy Middleton and Dave Slippers. First session – Athol Robertson and Tys Pringle; second session – Roy Louis and David James.

The next sponsored tournament is the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Friday morning, March 21. Contact Ellen Cawker at 082 8019339 if you wish to enter or enter your name on the notice board. Visitors are welcome to enter teams.

There will be an ‘Expro Challenge’ (ex-professional footballers from upcountry) tabs-in tomorrow (Friday) at 1.30 for 2 pm. This is going to be an afternoon and evening of fun with boerewors rolls after the game and entertainment that includes a comedian and live music, so come along and enjoy the camaraderie. Everyone welcome, including visitors from surrounding clubs, who will be charged a small green fee of R10.

The monthly quiz will be held on Wednesday, March 19, with a fish and chips supper.

There will be a ‘Green Hat’ day on March 16. Watch the notice board for more details.

Bingo will be played tomorrow (Friday), when boerewors rolls and Russian hot dogs will be on sale. All welcome. Lists are on the notice board for those interested in playing either

The Nomads will be holding their Christmas lunch – Maria’s famous peri-peri chicken – this Sunday March 16. This is open to all, so put your name on the list on the board now to help with catering arrangements.

THE South Coast Herald women’s fours, played at Port Shepstone Country Club last Thursday, was won by Charmaine van Deventer, Colleen Baker, Sharon Bischoff and Maureen Muller. Runners-up were Daphne Sapsford, Jenny Rawlins, Mark Bischoff and Mada Lindique. The 50/50 board was won by Jane Massam.
