Margate Moves: Programme is jam-packed

Lovers of musicals should not miss `An Evening of Music, Song and Comedy' featuring the fabulous Jonathan Roxmouth.

UNDOUBTEDLY there is no better place to be in winter than the South Coast. While the rest of the country shivers, this part of the world shows off with balmy weather and a warm sea.

With schools closing next week, there is lots on the go over the next few weeks.

The winter beach programme kicks off with touch rugby and a feast of fun sport at Margate beach from June 23 to 28.

One of the highlights will be a children’s baking contest and beachgoers can win lots of prizes in the many promotional giveaways that take place throughout the day.

Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate is hosting a Fish and Music Carnival on June 23. Eugene Rautenbach is the organiser and he can be contacted at 082 7793144.

Another seasonal favourite is the Wednesday Mardi Gras, the first takes place in Marine Drive Margate on June 27 from 6pm. for more information contact Corrie Wernick at 039 3172202. There will be two more street parties on July 4 and 11 – same time and place.

Top class

Lovers of musicals should not miss `An Evening of Music, Song and Comedy’ featuring the fabulous Jonathan Roxmouth.

The show will be staged at Margate Retirement Village’s Azalea Hall next Saturday, June 23.

Acclaimed pianist/singer Evan Robert will accompany Jonathan in a show that will feature hits from musicals, jazz standards and piano pieces.

Tickets for the theatre-style offering are on sale at R80 per person from the RAC or admin offices at the village.Bar facilities will be available from 6pm and it’s curtains up at 7pm. For more information and to book phone 039 3125000.

Good shows

The curtain comes down on `Lust in the Dust’ the latest adult comedy production by the Hibiscus Amateur Theatrical Society (Hats) this Thursday.

Set in the 1950s `Lust in the Dust’ tells the trials and tribulations of the Trotter family and their antics on stage have received good feedback from audiences.

The final show will be staged at Southbroom Golf Club on June 14 at 6.30pm. Proceeds go to the SPCA.

The Hibiscus Choir has been in rehearsals for their forthcoming concert `Musical Memories’ . The show will be staged at Margate Retirement Village’s bowling club on Tuesday, June 26 at 6.30pm. Bar facilities will be available but patrons are asked to take along their own snacks. Tickets cost R30 per person.

Condolences

Deepest sympathy to long-time Margate resident Liz Whitehead on the death of her husband John. He suffered a stroke last Tuesday (June 5) and sadly died four days later on June 9. His service takes place at the Margate Methodist Church this Friday (15th) at 2.30pm.

Condolences also go to Luciano and Verona Baldi from Positano Lodge in Margate on the death of Luciano’s brother Paulo. Paulo, who was at the Longbeach Resort in Mtwalume for many years died in Italy last week.

And many caring thoughts are with the family and friends of Giovannina Remini who died last week.

Warm welcome

This week the red carpet is rolled out for regular winter visitors – Catherine and Trevor Korb who are back in town to catch up with family and friends in Margate. They hail from Dubai.

And escaping from the Johannesburg winter chill are Roy and Wendy Nolan who have an apartment in Ramsgate. Roy is also a Wobbler at Margate Country Club and rumour has it that is his main attraction for trekking down here a couple of times a year.
