Hard work pays off for Margate Swimming Club trio

All in all it was a very successful weekend in the pool for these up-and-coming swimmers.

THREE swimmers from Margate Swimming Club excelled at the recent Level 1 champs at Kings Park pool in Durban, where they had to compete against other national swimmers.

The swimmers, Bayanda Hufner (11), Danica Pretorius and Hannah Parry, along with head coach Gerhard Labuschagne and junior coach Danielle Smith, and supported by friends and family, had a weekend filled with personal bests and victories, showing that hard work, dedication and persistence pay dividends when it comes to crunch time.

Bayanda was in top form all weekend, where he took bronze for 50m butterfly (taking 13 seconds off his personal best).

He took bronze in the 50m freestyle, taking four seconds of his personal best.

It was similar in his breaststroke race, where he earned another bronze, taking two seconds off.

However, in the 50m backstroke he earned gold, taking 10 seconds off. It was well-deserved for a hard-working swimmer.

Danica (13) secured five gold medals over the two days, dropping 19 seconds off her times in the five races.

Her medals came in the 50m and 100m freestyle races and in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke races.

Hannah (11) brought amazing heart and drive to the pool, dropping seven seconds off her 50m breaststroke and grabbing gold.

She also earned silver for both 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke races, dropping eight and two seconds respectively during those heats.
