A seven-year-old Braemar girl who was raped by her father (32) received justice after he was convicted in the Scottburgh Regional Court and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment.
Last year, the matter was reported to the victim’s grandmother after the victim’s 16-year-old cousin saw the father sexually molesting his daughter.

The traditional leader was also informed about the matter, but only when the victim’s mother learnt about the abuse was the matter reported to the police and the arrest made.
“The child’s parents are separated and she was visiting her father and paternal grandmother during the school holidays when she was abused,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
The case was assigned to Detective Constable Nonhle Myende of the Sawoti SAPS Detective Service for investigation and went from the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court to regional court.

Constable Myende was commended for the thorough investigation of the case and ensuring a successful conviction, despite having the matter having been reported months after it had actually occurred.
“I pray that, with counselling, the little girl heals completely from this horrendous abuse by the very person that she looked up to for love, security and protection,” said Major-General Sethenya Nxamagele, the Ugu Cluster commander. “Society is safer without the likes of this predatory father.”
