R2-million dagga bust in Umtentweni

A total of 18 bags of the weed was found.

FOUR people were arrested in Umtentweni on Tuesday morning this week for possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R2-million.

Warrant Officer Christo Mostert, from the Port Shepstone Crime Intelligence Section, and Devlyn Abbott, from Hibiscus Coast Protection Services, received information about a vehicle which was allegedly transporting dagga approaching Port Shepstone. The two officers stopped the vehicle on the main South Coast Road in Umtentweni at about 5.30am. Eighteen bags containing dagga were found in the vehicle.

 

“It was established that the dagga was being transported from Stanger and was to be delivered to Murchison,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. Two men and two women (in their 40s) were arrested and will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in dagga.

Port Shepstone Cluster Commander Major General Thembi Ndlovu was impressed with the breakthrough and commended the officers for their swift action and commitment.
