Margate Moves: Be a little moonstruck

Following the success of last year's inaugural Rib, Chip and Dance event, the Lions are going to do it again.

 

MOONDECKERS invites everyone to watch the rising of the spring new moon next week.

On offer is an interesting talk on indigenous plants, a raffle, prego rolls, good company and of course the spectacular star of the show – the new moon.

Everyone is asked to meet at the Whale Deck in Ramsgate on Wednesday, September 6 from 5pm.

If you would like to have a prego roll meal (R50 each) be so kind as to book by phoning Judi at 082 5577782 by this Monday (4th).

All proceeds go to the Ramsgate Conservancy.

Youth walk

South Coast for Jesus (SC4J) wants to unite local churches and young people this weekend. There is a praise and worship event `Youth on Fire’ at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds this Friday (1st) at 5.30pm and this will be followed by a mass walk the next day (2nd).

The `Feet on Fire’ SC4J walk starts at Margate’s main beach at 7am. All young people are encouraged to take along banners and flags or even build a float to mark the occasion with a procession through the streets of Margate.

Great show

The newly opened Illusion Dance Studio stages its first show at the Margate Community Hall on Saturday, September 16 at 6pm.

`Talent Extravaganza’ will feature modelling, fashion, singers, actors and the dancers.

Spring clean

If you have been doing a little spring cleaning you can sell those unwanted goods and make a little pocket money.

There are two car boot sales at the Hibiscus Mall this month. The first takes place on Sunday, September 10 from 9am to 1pm and the next one is on Saturday (23rd) from 8am to 1pm.

It is also a wonderful place to shop for bargains or unusual items.

Go bowling

Ramsgate Lions Club is to hold a fun bowls day for charity. It will be played at Margate Bowling Club this Sunday (3rd) from 9am. Take along friends and family for a fun day offering great prizes.

The format is four players per team with a maximum of two regular bowlers and the cost is R50 per player. And after everyone has learned to roll and hit the Jack there’s a bring and braai. Take your own meat, salads and pap will be on offer at R20. For details phone Johann Bentley at 082 5499451

Wine time

There will be more than 150 wines from 30 different estates at this year’s Spring Wine Festival. It takes place at Riverbend Conference Centre in Southbroom on September 22.

Tickets at R125 per person are on sale from the Crocodile Farm’s shop. Wines will be offered for sale at discounted prices and the ticket price includes tasting and finger snacks.

Welcome

Congratulations to former first lady of Margate, Norma Cominos, who is now a proud great-grandmother, her granddaughter Veronica became a mom on August 15 to Jessie Jane. Norma says her daughter Ann Logan and son-in-law David are delighted to be first time grandparents too.
