High standard at Shihan Cas Pretorius memorial karate tournament

WKF Ugu Karate ranged from five years up to senior and veterans.

WORLD Karate Federation (WKF), Ugu Karate region honoured the late Shihan Cas Pretorius by dedicating its annual winter karate tournament at Port Shepstone Secondary to his memory.

All affiliated kareteka from the WKF, Ugu Karate region took part. WKF Ugu Karate is affiliated to Karate KZN and Karate South Africa, the only recognised organisation that can award provincial and national karate colours.

WKF Ugu Karate ranged from five years up to senior and veterans. The chief referee was Shiha n Andy Bekker from Durban, accompanied by Sensei Yakeel Maharaj and local referees and judges.

Mr Bekker said that a positive and inspiring spirit was shown at this tournament with karateka showing great improvement, true sportsmanship and a high standard of karate.

“It was pleasing to note that the up and coming young karateka, junior brown and black belts are well on their way to qualifying to become judges, then referees in WKF Karate South Africa,” explained Mr Bekker.

“Selection from this tournament will be made for a WKF Ugu Karate regional team to participate at the Karate KZN Development trials in Durban this month.

WKF Ugu Karate region thanked parents for their support and looks forward to the next WKF Ugu Karate tournament at the end of this year.
