Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his daughter

Her father, who was intoxicated at the time, raped her and then threatened her and ordered her not to tell anyone what he had done.

APPEALING to abusers in an effort to warn against the abuse and rape of women and children, KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major-General Bheki Langa, stated that abusers will find themselves in jail if they continue doing these evil deeds.

The stern warning follows the appearance of a 39-year-old man and biological father who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Umlazi Regional Court on June 2, when he had been convicted of the rape of his daughter.

The sentence also followed National Child Protection Week. During November of 2013, the 12-year-old daughter had been at her father’s house in the Danganya Area of Umkomaas.

Her father, who was intoxicated at the time, raped her and then threatened her and ordered her not to tell anyone what he had done. Some time passed and eventually the girl confided in her grandmother.

A case of rape was subsequently registered for investigation with the Umkomaas SAPS and later transferred to the Umlazi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
