Big drug bust in Uvongo

Police discovered 1796 straws of heroin which were hidden in a vacuum cleaner.

MARGATE police arrested a 27-year-old man in a house in Uvongo in the early hours of Wednesday morning this week.

Warrant Officer Johan Terblanche, Sergeant Stanley Holloway with Constables Khethukuthule Nzama and Logan Moodley from the Port Shepstone K9 unit, acted on information and searched the residence at around 2.30am.

They discovered 1796 straws of heroin which were hidden in a vacuum cleaner, 12 ecstasy tablets and 12 parcels of cocaine powder.

“The street value of the drugs is R68 250,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. Cash to the amount of R6 705 was also confiscated. The suspect appeared in Ramsgate court yesterday (Wednesday) for dealing in drugs.

“Parents should be extra alert at this time of the year as drug dealers are very active during the festive period, preying on young teenagers to sell these drugs. We notice with concern that teenagers who are on holiday in this region walk alone on the streets in the early hours of the morning when they return from social gatherings. Parents should be aware at all times where their children are and take the necessary precautions for their safety,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
