Robert Mavundla triumphs at Margate CC

The scoring overall was not as good as had been expected.

ROBERT Mavundla is the new men’s strokeplay champion at Margate Country Club.

He had rounds of 76 and 73 in the windy weather to keep fast-finishing Elvis Khawula at bay, but only just.

Elvis had rounds of 78 and 71. The pair were tied at +6 with nine holes to go with Robert edging it in the end.

Patrick Mavundla was third on 80 and 74, followed by Ivan Curlewis on 77 and 78.

Detleff Wichmann had rounds of 86 and 80 to win the B division by two from Fanie Terblanche, who had 85 and 83.

David Jenkinson dominated in the C division, scoring 74 points to win by six from Corjan Hilt.

Saturday nett and Stableford prizes went to Robin Shuttleworth (A div nett 69), Mike Geiger (B div nett 70) and Dave Parsons (C div 37 points).

Sunday nett and Stableford prizes went to Patrick Mavundla (A div nett 71), Pierre Malherbe (B div nett 73) and Doug Johnston (C div 39 points).

In the women’s section, Agnes Spielmann was crowned champion after scoring 182 over the two days.

Agnes actually won the championship out of the bronze division, which is not something that happens too often.

Silver division winner was Sandi Johnston on 190.

Runner-up in the bronze division was Maureen Ogilvie on 188.

Copper division champ was Lesley Erasmus on 212, by 10 shots from Connie McArthur.

Saturday’s best nett prize went to Alicia Hilt, with Sunday best nett prize going to Lexley Lewis.

Respective runners-up were Wondra Bothma and Elsie Pretorius.

Last Tuesday’s women’s alliance was won by Margaret Ford, Chiappini Boshoff and Ruth Egbert on 72 points.

Wednesday Wobblers winners were Wimpie Jordaan, Robert Henning and Ken Mathews on 85 points, on a countout from Carl Zurfluh, Dave Parsons and Dave Morrison.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Konnie Konrad, Franz Miryr and Hans Beilhartz.

Week 10 winner of the Carreira-Curlewis Cup was George Bowie on a sensational score of 47 points.

Three points behind was Fanie Terblanche on 44 points.

Angus McLachlan provided a highlight on the day, scoring 80 for 43 points and breaking his age by three shots!
