Ulric cashes in

Golfers were out in full force once the rain cleared.

WEEK 8 of the Carreira-Curlewis Cup at Margate Country Club last Thursday saw Ulric Gous of Riverside Golf Club bank a win, scoring 40 points and in the process counting out Vusi Maphumulo.

In third place was Sandi Johnston on 37 points. Nearest the pins were Louw van Niekerk (4th) and Sandi Johnston (16th).

The women’s and Wobblers’ competitions were rained out during the week.

Women from six different South Coast clubs played for the Cecily McKenzie Cup last Friday and Saturday.

They played betterball Stableford on Friday and greensomes the next day.

Winners were Southbroom Golf Club’s Shelley Myers and Candida Amm on 81 points.

Tied for second were Margate Country Club’s Friedl Kotzbauer and Alicia Hilt, with Port Shepstone Country Club’s Kim Strauss and Yzelle Greyling.

Both pairs scored 77 points.

Super Saturday, sponsored by the Wild Coast Sun, was won by Louw van Niekerk and Fanie Terblanche on 73 points, with runners-up Charlie Hartmann and JP Pretorius on 71 points.

In third place on 68 points were Jim Finn and Keith Duncalf.

There were no nearest the pins as the markers were mistakenly returned to the pro shop by a group playing in the morning.
