Town planner faces assault charges

Her ex-boyfriend reportedly pulled her from the rear seat of the car, and beat her with a golf club until she fell to the ground.

UMDONI Municipality’s town planner, Nkululeko Raymond Ntombela, is in trouble with the law after he apparently beat his ex-girlfriend with a golf club on December 26, 2016.

Ntombela was arrested on January 12 and appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court later that day on charges of robbery and assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded back into police custody until his next appearance on January 23 for a formal bail application hearing.

“It is alleged that a 23-year-old Amandawe woman contacted a friend to fetch her from Minerva Avenue, Scottburgh South and take her home,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“At around 10pm the woman got into her friend’s car. While travelling through Scottburgh, the vehicle hit a tree after attempting to pass a bakkie which had intentionally blocked the road.”

Four men exited the bakkie and approached the car.

“The woman said ex-boyfriend pulled her from the rear seat of the car, and beat her with a golf club until she fell to the ground. The other men began assaulting the front seat passenger,” added Capt Pandarum.

The woman managed to get away and ran to a nearby house for help.

A Magma security officer arrived to help her. When the woman went back to the car, she discovered that her handbag, a wallet containing money and bank cards, her cellphone and the car keys were missing.

The case is being investigated by Detective Constable Dillon Khamisa of the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.
