Souties trump Boertjies in golf battle

In the big annual clash at Margate Country Club last Saturday, the Souties and Boertjies 'gunned down' each other, in good spirits, of course. However, the Souties proved victorious.

BRAGGING honours belong to the Souties for the next year, as they triumphed over their arch-rivals the Boertjies in their annual showdown at Margate Country Club last Saturday.

The final score was 747 to the Souties and 708 to the Boertjies. So it was fairly one-sided this year, which is often not the case.

Pairs’ prizes went to Beryl Williamson and Margaret Taylor on 45 points.

Second best were Flip Fourie and Johan Stoltz on 43, counting out Barbara Jackson and Alicia Hilt, who counted out Elsie Pretorius and Joan Minnaar.

Nearest the pins were Otto Mutschler (4th) and Margaret Taylor (11th).

Tuesday’s comp saw Lexley Lewis, Rene Paton and Alicia Hilt score 85 points to pip Agnes Speilmann, Margaret Ford and Chiapinni Boshoff by one point.

Thursday’s comp was won by club captain Carlos Perreira on 46 points. Second spot went to Chris Nel on 45 points. Third went to Fanie Terblanche on 40 points.

Nearest the pins went to Keith Duncalf (4th) and Carlos Perreira (16th).

Business day winners were Helen Wepener, Rina Rito, Evelyn Burls and Beryl Williamson on 101 points. Runners-up were Charlie Hartman, JP Pretorius, Richard Whittington and Joe Hartman on 96 points, followed by Greg Litkie, Piet Ludick, Barry Oehme and Jim ‘Ghost’ Finn on 95 points.

Nearest the pins were Alois Dufner (4th) and Barbara Jackson (11th).The women’s Connie Day betterball was won on 45 points by Jane Davies and Barbara Jackson, on a count-out from Margaret Taylor and Beryl Williamson.I n third place were Evelyn Burls and Lizzie Meyer on 43 points.
