Support operation clean-up Margate today

A group of South Coasters is getting together to make Margate great again .

COME rain or shine, prominent businessman, Stephen Herbst and a couple of other local businesses will be rallying together to clean-up Margate today (Friday) from 9am.

Anyone who would like to get involved is welcome to meet them at the thatched vendors’ shelters (near the Information Centre, where the surfers used to park) at Margate beach.

Mr Herbst, a passionate South Coaster and owner of Comfort Cool Airconditioners, said it is time to take back Margate, and make it GREAT again!

This week Mr Herbst’s facebook post about the poor state of Margate caught the attention of many South Coasters, and made front page news of the South Coast Herald.

People are becoming increasingly concerned that season is almost upon us, and the beach and its facilities are not up to standard.

Mr Herbst said the initiative began when word spread that he and some of his staff, including a tiler and paver, planned to go down to clean up and repair infrastructure such as the broken walkway.

But his facebook post (and his zeal to not let his home town ‘die’) has gathered incredible momentum with many businesses (including James Jones from Jim’s Bins who has kindly donated a skip for the day) and private individuals coming on board.

I am taken aback at the overwhelming response and support for #makingMargategreatagain.

Mr Herbst has also employed a few extra people, who don’t have jobs, to help tomorrow.

Anyone who would like to help can contact Mr Herbst at 082 453 1133.

Councillor Paul Brauteseth posted on facebook urging everyone to join and show the communities and authorities that we want/need good governance and service delivery.

Friends we need to start claiming our beautiful towns back! We are tired of dirt, grime and inefficiency! It has to STOP.Thanks to Stephen Herbst for this initiative – we are backing you all the way.”
