Drug dealers and perjurer arrested

Police warn that those who report false cases, either for insurance purposes or for other reasons, will be charged.

MARGATE police have made several arrests in the past week.

* Ugu Cluster Drug Task Team arrested two men on Tuesday this week in a vacant house in Erasmus Road, Margate. During this crime intelligence driven operation, the men, both aged 22, were found in possession of 25 capsules of heroin, an iPad suspected to be stolen, and three ID books.  The men were charged with dealing in drugs, as well as being in possession of suspected stolen property.

* A man (21) who reported that his cellphone had been stolen and opened a case of robbery at Margate police station in June this year had a nasty surprise.  According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, Detective Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk became suspicious after interviewing the man.  Her investigations revealed that the man had sold the cellphone at the Margate taxi rank for R600 and the cellphone had, in fact, belonged to his relative. He was charged with perjury and was given the option of paying a fine of R500 or appearing in court next Monday.

Police warn that those who report false cases, either for insurance purposes or for other reasons, will be charged with perjury.
