Alcohol-fuelled robbers nabbed

More than 40 bottles of spirits, suspected to be stolen, were recovered in Marburg.

THREE men were arrested recently by Lazer 911 officers in Dairy Road, Marburg in the early hours of the morning .

An alert officer spotted  five men walking down the road, and when back-up security vehicles arrived, they fled.

Three of the men were stopped and were found to be in possession of 40 bottles of assorted alcohol.

They were unable to explain how they had obtained the alcohol and were handed over to police.

“It was subsequently established that the liquor had been stolen from a tavern in Louisiana some time last Wednesday night,” said police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

A window had been forced open to gain entry and money, a dvd player, a cellphone and alcohol had been stolen.

The alcohol was returned to the tavern owner.

On Friday Xolisile Mavana (22), Simlindile Voiceman Ntcethe (23) and Mhlomishwa Welcome Yalo (25) appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrates’s Court, charged with business robbery and the unlawful possession of property suspected to have been stolen.

The case has been postponed to September 6.

The case is being investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Joey Nair of the Port Shepstone Detective Service.

In another crime-related incident, Lazer 911 officers patrolling in Robin Road, Albersville last Friday noticed a man fleeing when he spotted the security vehicle.

The man abandoned two car differentials as well as the trolley in which he had been pushing them.

.No arrests have been made. The security company is looking for the rightful owners of the differentials.

And on Tuesday this week a man was arrested with bags of rice on the N2 in Marburg. He was pushing two trolleys and, when he saw the security officers, he fled but was soon apprehended and handed over to the police.

Krinesh Reddy from Lazer 911 warned everyone to be wary of people pushing trolleys in the area.

“These men are often seen collecting scrap metal but have other motives. The police or a security company should be contacted immediately,” said Mr Reddy.
