Just in: ANC candidate gunned down

He was shot as he left for work.

AN ANC ward candidate in the August 3 local government elections was shot dead at his Santombe homestead near Harding earlier today.

Bongani Skhosana (41), was ANC candidate for ward 01 at Umuziwabantu municipality.

Police have confirmed the incident, and a murder case has been opened by Harding police.

Margate SAPS spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka said Skhosana was shot twice in the head.

“He was shot through the window of his bakkie as he was about to leave home. The suspects are still at large and the matter is currently being investigated.”

ANC Lower South Coast Region spokesman, Sipho Dlamalala said they were deeply concerned at the murder of their candidate.

“This is a tragic loss for the family, the community and the ANC,” he said.

Mr Dlamalala added they were unable to say whether the killing was politically motivated, but are leaving the investigation to the police.

“We trust SAPS members will make arrests swiftly on this matter.”
