‘Skaters’ to make waves on the river

The sport involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of the water.

PROFESSIONAL wakeskaters and skateboarders from around the country will be at the Umtamvuna River Lodge this Saturday, March 12, to compete as well as to help teach the children to ride.

Umtamvuna River Lodge is hosting a family fun day ‘Backyard Sessions’ at the lodge from 9am to 5pm.

This year’s event is a fund-raiser for Port Edward Primary and Pre-primary Schools. All proceeds will go towards developing the infrastructure at the school.

The event is a fun family outing and the aim is to get the younger generation involved in the different crossover extreme sports. This year the organisers have decided to focus on wakeskating and skateboarding. Nine of the best wakeskaters from across the country will compete and get involved with the youth.

Red Bull and Fox will be sponsoring the event. Prizes will be allocated and given on levels of participation. Entrance fee to the lodge is R30 for adults and R20 for children which includes all activities. For further information contact Matt Buys at 082 4111864.
