Interdistrict bowling teams announced

The men's teams will be announced at a later stage.

THE women’s teams to represent Kingfisher at the interdistrict championships in March next year were announced by Ken Tonge, KBA president, at the closing ceremony of the Champion of Champions.

The open teams to play in Bloemfontein are Ronita Kalil (skip) (Margate BC), Esta Wenzel (Margate BC), Liesje de Rosner (AMBC) and Johannie Theron (The Bell).

Ellen Cawker (skip) (Margate BC), Jessica Henderson (Margate BC), Vi Pells (Margate BC) and Pam Cole-Cook (Margate BC). The coach is Moira Humphrey (AMBC) and the manager is Priscilla van Rooyen (Margate CC).

The senior teams to play in Pretoria are Daphne Sapsford (skip) (The Bell), Jenny Rawlins (PSCC), Heather Roberts (Southbroom) and Jeannie Cousins (AMBC).

Kobie Stander (skip) ( Margate CC), Marthie Pringle (Margate BC), Dora Vosloo (Margate CC) and Helen Proctor (Margate CC). The coach is Brian Rawlins (PSCC) and the manager is Gae Gravell (Margate CC).

The B teams to play at East London are Lenie Geyer (skip) (Margate BC), Marie Coetzer (PSCC), Georgie McKechnie (Margate BC) and Tonya Blom (PSCC).

Barbara Brook (skip) (Margate BC), Margie Randall (The Bell), Brenda Smith (Riverside) and Leoni Booth (Port Edward). The coach is Barbara Iceton (Margate CC) and the manager is Hazel Hosken (Village).

The president’s teams to play in the quadrangular at Pietermaritzburg are Maureen Head (skip) (The Bell), Gill Thiele (PSCC), Charmaine van Deventer (The Bell) and Mada Lindeque (The Bell).

Irene Filmer (skip) (Munster), Hester Hankey (AMBC), Annetjie Kidd (AMBC) and Yvonne Bausek (Margate BC). The coach is Yvonne van Mentz (Margate CC) and the manager is Lynne Bamber (The Bell).

The men’s teams will be announced at a later stage.

Bowlers are urged to support the KBA masters to be played over the weekend of October 5th and 6th at The Bell.

The AGM of Kingfisher Bowling Association will be held at Margate Bowling Club on Monday, October 14 at 9.30am. All bowlers, and in particular those who have represented Kingfisher in the interdistricts, are urged to attend.

Coaches and technical officials (including markers) are reminded that a combined AGM of the coaches and technical officials standing committees is to be held at Margate Bowling Club on Wednesday, September 25 at 9am.

RIVERSIDE

OLWEN Gibbs, Chrissie Chancellor and Bruce Coldwells won the Cupboard Value open trips with 4+18. Madge Nicolson, Dawn Oehley and Sharon Smith were runners-up on 4+6 and the session winners were Ron Bettany, Jannie van der Nest and Dick Thompson on 2+10.

The next sponsored competition will Fruit and Veg mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, September 27.

Brenda Smith is congratulated after being selected to play in the interdistrict B side.

There will be a social evening tonight, (Friday, September 20) at 6pm when the accumulator prize will be drawn. Remember though, you have to be present to win it.

Fish and chips will be available at R25 per person. Please put your name on the list for catering purposes.

The club will be hosting the visiting British bowlers on Friday, October 4. Please enter your name on the list to play against them.

The club will be celebrating Halloween with a dinner dance at R60 per person on Friday, November 1. The theme will be black and orange, so you have plenty of time to prepare your outfits.

Members are advised that tabs in will be at 1.45 for 2pm as from Tuesday, October 1.

VILLAGE

PATRICK Kirkbright, Alan Ward and Hein Bester won the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips. Rennie Geyer, Ron Canning and Eric Chamier were runners-up on a count out from Brian Williams, Norman Isherwood and Carl Volker. Sessions were won by Bill Latham, Don Fowler and Derrick Shell on a countout from John Sutton, Clive Edmundson and Ross Ferguson and by Oscar Pienaar, Dave Aitken and Terry Goddard on a drawn card from Barry Herbert, Chris Abrams and Martiens Olivier. Bobby Nelson won the whisky.

The winners of the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 were Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor followed by Ina Malan and Dirkie Pretorius. Sessions went to Val Kirkbright and Chris Haslam and to Hazel Hosken and Dawn Oehley. Audrey Faux won the 50/50.

The next competitions to be held are Execudec mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday 24th and Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 on Monday, September 30. If you wish to enter any of these competitions contact Hazel at 039 3125277.

There will be a bring and braai this Friday, September 20. All welcome.

The next Hyundai tabs in drawn mixed trips will be on Saturday, 21st.

SOUTHPORT

THE Apex Electrical men’s trips was won by June Squires, Ann Hunkin and Jackie Marais followed by Inger Mitchell, Adele Reader and Val Boshoff. The session prize went to Maureen Head, Barbara Fernihough and Tina Barbour and the 50/50 was won by Val Chegwidden.

Congratulations to Margate BC men’s team on winning the interclub competition.

Tweni is thanked for its hospitality in hosting the fellowship morning last Sunday and congratulated on winning the trophy.

Dr Daryl D’Arcy men’s trips will be played this afternoon.

Saturday is our last tabs in game for the season. Members are asked to please bring a plate of snacks.

The green will close until November 1 following the Ian Gordon mixed trips this Sunday afternoon.

SOUTHBROOM

THE green really benefited from the rain last week and the grass is coming through well.

A brain baffling quiz took place on Friday evening and the final winners were Yvonne and Stuart Janvier and Pam Reed.

UMTENTWENI

DERICK Celliers and Val Boshoff won the J.Cee sounds mixed 2-4-2 played on Monday 9th with a score of +33 from runners-up Louis Marx and Daphne Hounsell on +15. Dennis Graham and Cynthia Korb won the session prize on 2+7.

Eric Grierson, Eudelle Caney and Louis Marx won the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring competition played on Saturday 14th from second placed Isobel Kilian, Tony Aveyard, Janine Roelofse and Bill Hobbs.

The annual fellowship trips competition between Southport and Umtentweni bowling clubs was won by the host club, Umtentweni, in very windy conditions. Nevertheless, it was a fun filled day followed by a lunch time braai which was enjoyed by all.

The next competition will be the John Dory’s mixed fours today, Friday 20th, followed by Abingdon Road Spar on Thursday 26th.

THE BELL

THE club is very proud to announce that Louw Vermeulen and Johannie Theron have been selected to play in the prestigious masters’ championships to be held at The Bell. We are also very proud to announce that our members selected for the 2014 women’s district competitions are Daphne Sapsford (seniors), Johannie Theron (open), Margie Randall (B side), Maureen Head, Charmaine van Deventer and Mada Lindeque (president side managed by Lynne Bamber).

There are lists on the board inviting members to play with the British visitors on Friday, October 11 and an order form for next season’s bowling diaries.

The Venture Inn/Jaxx men’s trips was won by Eddie Fann, Keiron Dacey and Steve O’Moore. Austen Knollys, Eric Enslin and Tony Olivant were runners-up and the session prize went to Trevor Harris, Tickey Nel and Tony Botha.

The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours was won by Gerry Cox, Willy Knott, Tuppy Cox and Shaun Titmus. Second were June Phillips, Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Daphne Hounsell followed by Luke Pohl, Maureen Head, Johannie Theron and Peter Ford.

There will be a combined technical officials, coaches and markers meeting of the standing committees at Margate on Wednesday, September 25 at 9am.

PORT EDWARD

THE club is extremely proud of Barry Payn after winning the Champion of Champions title at the KBA men’s singles competition. Barry is not only a champion on the green but is an enthusiastic, hardworking, fun loving and encouraging member of the club. We salute you Barry!

Congratulations also to our ever patient, highly competent and conscientious competition manager, Leoni Booth who has been selected to represent Kingfisher in the interdistrict B team for 2014.

Banners Rest Bowling Club is thanked for hosting Port Edward members while our green is closed. There was a wonderful turnout for tabs in last Saturday.

Members are looking forward to a Friday night club evening in the near future. Watch this space.

HIBBERDENE

CHRIS Jacobs, Tony Aveyard and Astrid Jackson from Umtentweni were the overall winners of the Mooirivier Brokers’ monthly trips played on Wednesday, Sepember 4. Keith Mills, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone were runners-up and the session prize was awarded to Errol Parry, Vivienne Hollander and Tony Simpson from AMBC.

The weekly mixed trips sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy was won by Felicity van Rensburg with Maureen and Tabie Jonker. Keith Mills, Hana Svoboda and Louise Shone were runners-up and the session went to Arthur and Miriam Seagar with Jan Venter.

A drawn trips competition has been arranged for today, Friday, 20th at 2pm.

Birthday wishes go to former bowler Ian Marshall.

MARGATE BC

CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica Henderson (coach) and the SA Protea team for their haul of medals at the African States Tournament in Windhoek last week.

The winners of the Fruit and Veg City men’s trips played on Friday were Reg Saunders, Roy Middleton and Rob Moni. Athol Robertson, Dieter Scholz and Neville Philpott were runners-up and the session went to Dave Barber, Peet Trollip and Hannes Trollip.

MARGATE CC

THE club’s AGM Cup for mixed drawn trips will be played this Saturday, September 21, but the originally planned 2013 awards and club competitions draw will be delayed until Saturday, October 12.

This week is the last week for members to enter their names in the drawn pairs.

The men’s and women’s sevens league will be played in the second week of November and all members wanting to play in this league must also put their names on the list on the notice board.

On Sunday, October 6 the club will have an action bowls day similar to the previously very successfully held event.

Our thoughts and prayers go to Jean Ford in hospital at the moment after a major operation. We all wish her a very speedy recovery.

Following an appeal from Port Shepstone Regional Hospital for donations of baby clothes for premature babies in its maternity ward, the club’s women’s sections are to be commended for either sewing or knitting more than 80 garments. Margate Country Club has pledged to continue its support.

PORT SHEPSTONE

KEITH Thiele is congratulated following his election as the new chairman of the bowls section at the club’s AGM last Thursday. Keith and his new committee are wished a productive and successful year. The various portfolios will be determined at the committee’s first meeting.

NOMADS LSC

MEMBERS enjoyed their monthly game at Riverside last Sunday. Ann Bailey, Yvonne Anderson and Dave Slippers took home first prize on a score of 10+12. Frances Philpott, Mada Lindeque and Corrie Malan were runners-up on 8+15 and Gus van der Wath, Dirkie Pretorius, Neville Philpott and Sandy Ferguson were third. The sportsman prize was won by Rennie Geyer, Trixi Smith and Micky Jansen. Christine Faber had a good morning taking home both the nearest the jack prize and the whisky.
