Brave fight from rugby Warriors

The second-half comeback was not quite enough.

THE Fidelity Security South Coast Warriors put up a brave fight against Varsity College in round one of the Castle Murray Cup, but in the end were bundled out and must now play in the Junior Murray Cup on Friday, August 14.

The final score was 35-25, but the Warriors were significantly better in the second half, after conceding some soft tries early on in the game.

At half-time the score was 22-3 against the home team, but they came out firing in the second half, outscoring the visitors by three tries to one.

They certainly displayed much courage and showed what they are capable of with ball in hand.

A good example of this was the try scored by wing Sibusiso Kunene, who scored under the posts after breaking through three tackles.

To put it simply, it was probably the try of the day.

Other tries were scored by flank Karel van Rooyen and scrumhalf Chris Mitchell.

Flyhalf Jaques Petzer-Moore slotted two conversions and two penalties and was also named the backline man of the match.

Captain and eighthman Juan van den Berg was the overall man of the match. He led from the front, as he always does, and was massive on defence.

Other players who had very good games were young hooker Jaques Coetzee, lock Gromingo Mzunga, and centres Marcell Sass and Tienie Viljoen.

The overall Castle Lager Man of the Match was Varsity College’s Mark van Aswegen who collected a prize of R1000 from Murray Cup sponsor Castle Lager.
