Update: Toll road crash involved sedan and LDV

Police are still in the process of identifying the deceased and the vehicles involved in the accident.

THIS morning’s accident on the R61 toll road which claimed the lives for three people is being investigated by police.

At about 6.30am, police and emergency services attended to a scene of a collision between a sedan and an LDV on the toll road near Shelly Beach.

“The two vehicles completely burnt out as a result of the impact and subsequent fuel spill and the two occupants of the LDV and the one occupant of the sedan could not be saved,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The debris and oil covered a large stretch of the road. Port Shepstone SAPS will be investigating  a culpable homicide docket.

Police are still in the process of identifying the deceased and the vehicles involved in the accident.

The road was closed for two hours and emergency services are still busy cleaning up the road surface.
