Bogus cops strike twice

They suddenly produced firearms and robbed him of his cash, firearm, jewellery and cellphone before fleeing in their vehicle.

A GANG of house robbers posing as police officers struck twice – in Durban and in Umkomaas – last week.

The group of men, dressed in police uniform and driving what appeared to be a marked police vehicle, allegedly stormed the homes within hours of each other.

According police, the first robbery took place at about 7.35pm on Monday, July 13.

The 55-year-old victim was at home when the four suspects entered, posing as police officials.

They suddenly produced firearms and robbed him of his cash, firearm, jewellery and cellphone before fleeing in their vehicle. A case of house robbery was opened at Cato Manor SAPS for investigation.

The following day, in Umkomaas, a 38-year-old woman opened her door to two men with firearms, who entered the house, telling her and her sister that they were police officers.

They made enquiries about the vehicle outside: whether it had tracking and if it was paid in full. They then demanded the car keys and threatened her.

They took the vehicle and four cellphones and fled the scene. A case of house robbery was opened.

At the time of going to press, no arrests or recoveries had been made.
