Off-duty policeman shot in the head

Several shots were fired, one of which struck and killed the officer.

AN off-duty police officer stationed at Scottburgh SAPS was shot and killed last weekend.

The Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit is investigating.

Warrant Officer Bethwell Dlamini (53)  and two friends were apparently sitting on the verandah of a house in Kwabangabizo near Hibberdene last Saturday at about 8pm when the incident occurred.

“One of the men got up to relieve himself and the next moment, several shots were fired,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“Warrant Officer Dlamini was shot in the head and died at the scene. The other person managed to take cover,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
