VIDEO: Taxi violence update – firearms and ammunition recovered

Police have taken several men in for questioning after this morning's taxi violence.

EARLY this morning Port Shepstone police officers from different units converged on the Port Shepstone taxi rank when shots were allegedly fired.

Police have cordoned off the rank and are processing the area for forensics. “Two vehicles have been confiscated and one vehicle was left there, abandoned,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“The second vehicle was intercepted by police and three people taken in for questioning. Five firearms and five magazines with numerous rounds of ammunition were found in the vehicle,” she said.

Shortly afterwards, police also arrested four other men in the Port Shepstone CBD and confiscated four  rifles, with magazines and rounds. Investigations are continuing and at this stage no one has been charged.

Police are monitoring the situation.
