Hijack victim escapes from blazing vehicle

The owner of the vehicle was tied up and forced into the boot after which the car was set alight.

A HIBBERDENE man is lucky to be alive after he was hijacked and placed in his car boot last Sunday.

Hibberdene police are  investigating a carjacking and attempted murder after the 33-year-old man reported the incident to the police. “The man said he was attacked in the Mfazazana area last Sunday,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“He said he was parked at a car wash at 2am when two men approached him. They were armed with knives and forced him into the passenger seat. He also claimed that three other men got into the vehicle. They drove to a deserted place where they took off the man’s clothing, bound his hands and feet and shoved him in the boot of the car,” she said.

After placing him in the boot the hijackers set the vehicle alight. The man however managed to escape from the burning car and contacted the police. Investigations are continuing.
