Magistrate delivers interesting talk

Women listened attentively to the regional magistrate.

WOMEN at Stonecroft Ministries’ monthly tea at the Port Shepstone Country Club thoroughly enjoyed the talk on human trafficking by Regional Magistrate for KZN, Johann Bester.

He said that although human trafficking is thought to be ancient history, Port Shepstone is still dealing with numerous incidents of this nature.

“Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labour or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others and occurs within a country or trans-nationally. It is a crime against the person because of the violation of the victim’s rights of movement through coercion and because of their commercial exploitation,” said Mr Bester.

“Human trafficking is thought to be one of the fastest-growing activities of trans-national criminal organisations and is condemned as a violation of human rights by international conventions.”
