Teen killed in taxi crash
Several people were trapped in the wreck and had to be extricated.
A MINIBUS left the road on the R102 at Melville and crashed into thick bushes last Saturday night, reports Rob Mckenzie, spokesman for KZN EMS.
The vehicle overturned, leaving a 15-year-old girl fatally injured. Paramedics worked together and stabilised 15 other people who had been injured in the crash. Several people were trapped in the wreck and had to be extricated.
They were transported to Port Shepstone and Murchison hospitals.
Also on Saturday, a child died after being struck by a vehicle on the R61 near San Lameer.
Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services together with those from a private ambulance service responded.
“The child had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead,” said Mr Mckenzie.
In an incident earlier the same day, a woman miraculously escaped with minor injuries after a roll-over accident on the N2 about five kilometres from Hibberdene.
Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesman, said it appears that the vehicle veered off the roadway overturned with its twisted remains coming to rest on an embankment.
“Netcare 911 and the provincial paramedics arrived at the scene and were surprised to find that the driver had escaped with only minor injuries,” he added.
She was taken to a nearby hospital.
