Massive blow for potheads

The Airwing helicopter was called in to assist.

NINE dagga fields went up in a puff (or were were chopped down) in a massive police operation at Mehlomnyama yesterday (Thursday).

Police officers from Port Shepstone, Mehlomnyama, Msinsini, Hibberdene and St Faiths braved the sweltering heat and walk down into the valleys to reach the dagga fields.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, who actually rolled up her sleeves to help, said they were slaving away in the harsh conditions and were close to calling it a day after the sixth field was destroyed.

Then reinforcements arrived in the form of Captain Mike O’Donnell and Warrant Officer ‘Wessie’ van der Westhuizen from the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Airwing with the helicopter, which dropped the team at the remaining three fields.

Strike nine for the good guys.

“The chopper was a real bonus and they also ensured our safety by flying over the area, keeping a watchful eye,”  said Lt-Col Wiid.

Cluster Commander of Port Shepstone, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, visited the operation and was understandably proud of her team.

She commended the acting station commander of Mehlomnyama and his officers for finding the fields which were well hidden in a deep valley. CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS
