Man electrocuted in Margate

An illegal electricity connection is thought to have been responsible.

A MAN, believed to be in his 50s, was electrocuted in Margate, after stepping on an illegal electrical wire connection near the informal Masinenge settlement.

Apparently the man and another passenger was on his way to the coast from Durban at around midday.

It is believed that near Masinenge, they stopped their vehicle and the man walked away from the vehicle to relieve himself. In the process he stepped on the live wire of an illegal electrical connection, and was electrocuted.

The tragedy has served to highlight the urgency required in sorting out the very dangerous illegal wire connection mess that currently pervades.
