Angry staff cause Spar to close

The store was closed for part of the morning.

SHOPPERS were locked out of  Hibberdene Spar this morning due to a serious staff protest.

Employees refused to start work until management provided answers as to why their salaries had been cut, allegedly without warning.

“I had R900 cut off my January salary, and I have no idea why,” said one angry staff member.

Management eventually  brought the situation under control and staff returned to work.

Manager, Ajay Singh, confirmed that the store had been closed for part of the morning.

“The shop is now open and everyone has gone back to work. A meeting will be held on Tuesday where the shop steward, labour representatives and head office will try to resolve the grievances,” said Mr Singh.
