UPDATE: Second robbery suspect shot dead

When a detective from Scottburgh entered one of the rooms, the suspect attacked him.

THE manhunt for the second person thought to be involved in the Pennington house robbery last Wednesday ended when the suspect was shot dead by police.

Another suspect was shot and wounded by police  earlier this week.

Yesterday at about 2pm, Warrant Officer Christo Mostert from Port Shepstone crime intelligence, assisted by Law Enforcement officer, Devlyn Abbott, detectives from Scottburgh,  and other police units followed up on information on the whereabouts of the wanted man which led them to a house in rural  Hibberdene.

“When a detective from Scottburgh entered one of the rooms, the suspect attacked him,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The detective sustained injuries to his arms, neck and chest. Warning shots were fired by a Tactical Response Team officer. The suspect was hit and died on the scene. A knife, a handgun and stolen property were found in his possession.

The detective was treated by paramedics for his injuries.

“Investigations are still continuing and police are searching for more suspects,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
