Local duo releases first album

Top musicians will join The Hinds Brothers at the launch

A DEBUT full-length album, ‘Ocean of Milk’, by South Coast musicians Aden and Wren Hinds, is due for worldwide release on Tuesday, August 27 and will be officially launched at a concert in Durban next week.

Professionally known as the Hinds Brothers, Aden and Wren produced their album themselves and it will be released on the start-up independent Durban label, South Sea Records. It was recorded in no less than seven studios in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Pretoria.

‘Ocean of Milk’ features some of South Africa’s great musicians, including Marc Duby on upright bass and Pete Auret on drums. It was mixed by SAMA award winning producer Dan Roberts and mastered in New York by Alan Douches (Sufjan Stevens, Roky Erikson).

Critics say it has a cohesive depth to it that resonates with the great albums of yesterday. The brothers’ beautiful song-writing and arrangements are artfully complemented by the lush and acoustically textured production. The harmonic resonance of two distinct voices, together with their reflective and honest lyrical sensibility, communicates true profundity.

This much-anticipated album’s official Durban launch will take place at the Howard College Theatre in Glenwood, Durban, on Saturday, August 31. Joining the soulful jamming of the brothers will be Sez Adamson on pedal steel and lap steel guitars, Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby on fiddle, Bruce Baker on drums, Logan Byrne on upright bass and Richard Haslop on dobro and mandolin. Tickets are R100 and are available through quicket.com and at The Corner Cafe in Glenwood.
