It’s World Cancer Day

In many cultures and societies cancer remains a taboo issue and people living with cancer are subject to stigma and discrimination that may stop them from seeking care.

WORLD Cancer Day on February 4 is an initiative under which the entire world can unite in the fight against the global cancer epidemic.

It helps us all to understand the full impact of cancer, making us aware of the emotional, mental and physical well-being of patients in order to maximise the lives of patients, families and carers.

In many cultures and societies cancer remains a taboo issue and people living with cancer are subject to stigma and discrimination that may stop them from seeking care.

Cancer sufferers often experience depression, anxiety and fear. The psychological toll of caring for a person with cancer can also be enormous.

Cancer can have a serious impact on a person’s emotional, physical and mental status. Cancer treatments have several side effects including hair loss, weight gain, impaired fertility, sexual dysfunction and often result in partner rejection.
