THE organisers of this year’s Scottburgh Classic Car Show were pleased to hand a whopping R60 000, the proceeds from the show, to three local charities last week.
Hosted by the Scottburgh Classic Car Club and sponsored by the Rising Sun, the 2013 event was was a huge success, attracting 50 percent more visitors than it did last year. About 450 vehicles were featured on this year’s show. This enabled the Scottburgh Classic Car Club to donate an impressive R60 000 to the three chosen beneficiaries.
R30 000 was donated to the Khumbula Ikhaya House of Safety in Umzinto for abandoned children and child victims of crime. At a small gathering at the safehouse, Peter Fielding, the show co-ordinator, presented the cheque to chairman, Mervin Mundie. The funds will be used to provide built-in cupboards for the children’s clothes in their bedrooms.
R15 000 was given to ‘4 Paws and a Tale Rescue Centre’, which provides food, healthcare and homes for stray and unwanted dogs. “With this generous donation we at ‘4 Paws and a Tale’ will be able to supply safe temporary accommodation at our new kennels called Haven,” said spokesman Nicky Koekemoer.

A further R15 000 was donated to the Umsizi Umkomaas Vervet Rescue Centre which heals sick and rehabilitates healthy monkeys. Spokesman Tracy Rowles said that she would now be able to replace the stolen camera that was used to document the story of every vervet monkey that was rescued. The money would also be used to rebuilt the roof on the nursery for orphans that was damaged during a storm.
Mr Fielding expressed his sincere appreciation to the Scottburgh community for its huge support and assistance in this annual fundraising event.
