Pensioner attacked on farm

In both instances, the intruders placed bags over the heads of their victims.

A PENSIONER (74) was attacked by three armed men at her home on a farm at Upper Mellville on Monday this week.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the intruders entered the home through an open door.

“The men were armed with bush knives. They bound her hands, and placed a bag over her head.”

Lt-Col Wiid said the woman was taken to a bedroom while the men searched the house for jewellery and cash.

Fortunately, a farm worker returned from lunch and when the men saw him, they fled from the house on foot.

A search was undertaken by local farmers and police, but without any success.

However, two men were taken in for questioning.

Detective Warrant Officer Chris du Plessis from Southport SAPS is investigating.

In a separate incident on Tuesday this week, a man (39) was at his house next to a tuck shop in Madlala location when five men entered the room.

Lt-Col Wiid said one of the men was armed with a gun and the others with knives.

“They hit him on the head, put a plastic bag over his head and tied his hands,” she said.

When they left, the man untied his hands and reported the incident to the owner.

Lt-Col Wiid said it was discovered that the culprits cut the sliding mechanism of the burglar guards and entered the shop. A dvd player, cellphone, television and a jacket were stolen.
