Cops crack down on drugs

A number of people have been arrested for being in possession of 'hard' drugs.

POLICE have been on a mission to combat the ongoing problem of drugs on the coast.

Last Friday in Betania, four men, all in their 20s, were arrested for being in possession of Mandrax pills and straws of heroin.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said, a woman (24) was also found in possession of Mandrax and straws of heroin which she had hidden underneath her baby’s clothes in a chest of drawers .

Lt-Col Wiid said another woman, Ndomu Beauty Majola (49), was arrested on the same day, for the possession of dagga.

She hid 36 small parcels of dagga, weighing 250,6 grams and one big parcel of dagga weighing 85 grams, in a banana tree. She paid a R700 admission of guilt fine.

A man, (34), who was arrested at the Port Shepstone taxi rank last Thursday with 130 parcels of dagga, weighing 755,8 grams  will appear in court soon.

He was arrested by Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling, Constable Mzakwe Makana, Constable Raphael Smithwick and Constable Lee Frost from POP Port Shepstone.

Lt-Col Wiid said the policemen also arrested three men and a woman in Louisiana, Mkholombe and Bhoboyi respectively for dealing in liquor.

The accused all paid admission of guilt fines.
