Bank customers warned of scam

Be warned - if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

UNSCRUPULOUS scamsters are again trying to part you from your hard-earned cash, and FNB customers seem to be the latest targets.

An email doing the rounds, purportedly from FNB, reads:

‘Attention eBucks Member

You have been rewarded with a e10,000 which is equivalent to R1,000 for swiping your FNB cheque card…

Please click here https://www.ebucks.com/web/  <https://flightsolutions.de/k/f.htm> to validate the process of receiving your eBucks/FNB Reward, then wait for an sms to get to your cell phone containing an OTP number.

Note that you must enter the OTP on the next page. Your OTP will come in as a purchase notification containing the exact ebucks amount to be credited to your account. If you fail to enter the 6 digits OTP, you may not be verified.

Regards,

eBucks Reward Program’

A suspicious FNB customer who received this mail  quite sensibly forwarded it to the bank to check if it was legit. He received this response:

‘Good Day

Thank you for taking the time to inform us about the suspicious email you received and forwarding us the actual email.

The email you received which appeared to be from FNB is not legitimate. It is part of a fraudulent scam to illegally acquire your personal financial information.

Please do not access websites through links in emails, rather type the site address directly into the browser address bar.’

Remember – if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
