New equipment delays service at licensing department

The centre is recording 200 applications a day.

SINCE the beginning of August, the driving licence testing centre has been experiencing long queues.

Simon Soboyisa, spokesman for Hibiscus Coast Municipality, said the department of transport has issued the centre with three Live Capturing Units (LCUs).

“The centre will no longer be manually recording and submitting  fingerprints and image scanning sheets,” he said.

He added that the centre was working hard with all three LCUs and was capturing applications as fast as possible. However, delays might occur during the implementation of the new system.

He said the normal renewal of a driving licence doesn’t take more than five minutes to capture.

However,  he cautioned this was also dependent on the understanding and speed of an applicant’s response to the LCU.
