St Michael’s beach: still no answers

There is still no progress regarding the ablution block repairs at the popular beach.

ALTHOUGH the South Coast Herald has sent numerous requests for information, the Hibiscus Coast Municipality is not shedding light on the poor maintenance of facilities at St Michael’s beach.

The ablution blocks are barely functional with only one or two usable toilets available for beachgoers. Repair work started more than a year ago but little has been done and many people have complained about the shoddy workmanship regarding what has been completed. There has been almost no progress for many months and no answers have been forthcoming from the municipality regarding this lack of progress. Frequent requests for information have been totally ignored

St Michael’s is a popular beach and is often very crowded. It is also the venue for the start and finish of the Uvongo parkrun which attracts about 150 people every Saturday. Many of the runners complain about the poor condition of the ablution blocks.

Surfers and swimmers are also concerned about the damaged outside showers at this popular beach. These facilities have apparently not worked for many months, including during the recent holiday period. The municipality has acknowledged the South Coast Herald’s request for information about the damaged showers but has not yet replied.

  1. Whilst the HCM are at it, can they please also reinstate the Margate beach showers, which disappeared around three years ago. Without a proper beach and facilities the South Coast has very little to promote itself with.
