Sarah McKaw is new GM at Netcare Margate Hospital

While she may be new to the role, she is not new to the hospital and has been the nursing manager since July 2016.

Sarah McKaw is the new general manager at Netcare Margate Hospital, having taken over the reins from Rob Ferreira and has hit the ground running.

While she may be new to the role, she is not new to the hospital and has been the nursing manager since July 2016.

Born and bred in Durban, her career in health care started in 1995, when she worked as a staff nurse at Addington Hospital.

Thereafter, she moved to Johannesburg to work at Netcare Garden City Hospital, so is no stranger to the Netcare group.

In 1996 she studied a bridging course to become a registered nurse, completing it in 1998.
She worked as a registered nurse in paediatrics from 1998 to 2000, and in 2000 became the unit manager.
Not one afraid of hard work and study, she completed her masters degree in management through Wits University from 2002 to 2004.

From 2007 to 2008 she worked as deputy nursing manager at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital in Boksburg, then at Netcare Park Lane Hospital as nursing manager in 2009.

In a way, she came full circle in 2010, working again at Netcare Garden City – where it all started for her with the Netcare group.
Her career changed course – and province – in 2016 when she moved back to KwaZulu-Natal to take care of her elderly mother.

She joined the team at Netcare Margate Hospital and has played a vital role since.
Along the way she did a course through Stamford University on applied compassionate training.
She has settled in quickly in her new role, having served as the acting GM since October last year.

The hospital is moving towards fully implementing its CareOn electronic medical record system and also has plans to expand to accommodate more rooms for doctors.

Sarah likes to use an inclusive decision-making style of leadership and is looking forward to the new role.
She was also grateful to Rob for having passed on a wealth of information and experience. He served the hospital and community with distinction and is wished well in his retirement.

Sarah McKaw is looking forward to her new role.
