Jar of fish paste auctioned for R1000 as Margate magic spreads

This was probably the most expensive bottle of fish paste auctioned in history.

There’s nothing ‘fishy’ about Tidy Towns‘ Margate magic and some wonderful things have happened on the coast, thanks to this initiative.

It’s led to locals performing spontaneous acts of generosity and goodness – like a bottle of Peck’s Anvochette being auctioned online for R1000.

The auctioned fish paste with proceeds going to Tidy Towns Shelly Beach to Margate.

That has to go down as possibly the most expensive bottle of fish paste auctioned in history.
But it was all for a worthy cause, with the money raised donated to Tidy Towns Shelly Beach to Margate.

For the record, Madelein Stopforth, who has played a big role in bringing magic back to Margate, auctioned the jar.

The highest bidder was Sharon Vlooh, who paid R1000.
A grand escort was provided by a local security company and the fish paste brought to Sharon in a fancy box.
Sharon said she loved what Tidy Towns was doing and was bidding on the South Coast being fabulous again.

“Hopefully my small contribution can make a difference,” she said.
