Closure of Douglas Mitchell’s sports bar and restaurant leaves a void for locals

It's hoped its doors can be opened soon.

Many locals and visitors are sad to see the closure of the popular Douglas Mitchell‘s sports bar and restaurant in Uvongo.  The club is a popular watering hole, known as a place for friends and family to meet to watch rugby – and for its cold beers and great ‘value for money’ food.

Closed: A sad state of affairs for Douglas Mitchell.

From April 1 this year, patrons were met with a poster on the door which reads: “The committee of Douglas Mitchell Sports Club apologises for the inconvenience of the closing of the restaurant and sports bar. Due to unforeseen circumstances the premises will be closed until further notice.”

However, the sport facilities remain operational, with rugby season getting going in full force.

The Herald has established that the matter has been handed over to Van Zyl Retief Incorporated.

As soon as more information comes to light, such as when the sports bar and restaurant will be operational again, the story will be updated.
