Upcoming Career Day aims to inspire learners

The event will be held at the Sezela Cricket Ground on Saturday, April 29.

The highly anticipated Career Day is right around the corner.

Former learners of Sihle High School in Malangeni, Umzinto have decided to give back to society by organising a big educational event for Grades 9 -12 learners from Malangeni.

The event will be attended by over 1800 learners from Sihle High School, Malangeni Secondary School and two learners from each of the 47 high schools in the Scottburgh education circuit which is part of the Ugu education district.

The Career Day will be held at the Sezela Cricket Ground on Saturday, April 29 from 08:30 to 15:30.

“We would like to expose these learners to different career choices that can increase their chance of securing formal employment or become entrepreneurs and create employment for others,” said Sikhosiphi Dlamini, project leader and chairperson of the Malangeni Career Day Organising Committee.

“We also want to showcase some local role models, who have achieved successful careers in diverse sectors. We expect that this initiative will help them to see that it is possible to achieve a successful career for people who grew up in these poor, rural communities and attended the same under-developed local schools.”

Learners will be able to interact with professionals from various fields such as Medical and Health Sciences; Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Sciences and Maritime Studies; Law, Accounting, Auditing, Economic and Management Sciences; Engineering, Built Environment and Civil Aviation; ICT, Media, Communication and Marketing; Banking and Financial Services; Military, Police and Correctional Services; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Hospitality, Tourism, Entertainment, Fashion Design and Sports; Technical and Vocational Education; and Admissions and Funding: HEI and TVET Colleges: NSFAS and UKZN.

The organising committee gives thanks to its anchor sponsor for the event, the Sezela Cane Growers Association, which has helped make everything possible.

Errol Koekemoer is the chairman of the board of Sezela Cane Growers Association, the main sponsor of the event.
