Sheppie High finds balance between academics and sports

Blake received a Gold medal in the u12/13 over 55kg Kumite division and is currently the South African Champion in his category.

Port Shepstone High School was in top form recently as they battled to overcome hurdles in the academic arena and also on the various sports fields.

The school is incredibly proud of learners who have managed to find that ‘sweet spot’ of a perfect balance between maintaining great grades in the classroom and displaying real passion and flair on the sports ground.
Some learners excelled individually, such as Grade 10 learner, Oliver Delport, who competed in the African World Triathlon Cup and South African Triathlon Championship. He finished first in his age group and 7th overall in the men’s division.

Congratulations as well to Grade 8 learner, Blake Hogan, who participated in the Karate South Africa National Junior Championships in March. Blake received a gold medal in the U12/13 over 55kg Kumite division and is currently the South African champion in his category.

He is also the current KwaZulu-Natal champion in this division, winning a gold medal at the KZN Karate Championships which were held in February. He is in the National Team training squad in preparation for selection to represent South Africa in the upcoming UFAK Region South Championships in Zimbabwe in June.
Grade 12 learner, Gareth Selkon achieved a bronze in the U21 Kumite and Grade 10 learner, Michael Peeriyalal, earned a bronze in the U14/U15 Kumite.

It was also busy on the sporting front against Port Natal. Learners gave their all and flew the Sheppie flag high. Rugby results: First team won 29-5 and the u15s lost 5-7.
Netball results: First team won 36-6, second team won 17-8 and the U14A squad won 7-3. The first team hockey girls won 10-0 and the U16s won 7-0. Congratulations to the learners and their dedicated coaches for these wonderful results.
