Creston College launches region’s first-of-its-kind AstroTurf

The Sisonke and Ugu Regional hockey tournament will take place at Creston College on Sunday, April 23.

Hockey enthusiasts across the lower South Coast can now play and compete on Creston College’s brand-new AstroTurf field, the first of its kind in the region!

This stunning facility can also accommodate several other sports codes and is open to surrounding communities for clinics and practises.

Curro COO Bernardt van der Linde (left) and Executive Head of Creston College, Noel Coetzee unveil the plaque, officially marking the opening of the AstroTurf.

The field’s big opening ceremony was hosted last Friday, with first-team and U13 hockey teams from across the region competing to be crowned as the field’s first-ever winners. These schools included St Patrick’s College, Izotsha Primary School and Suid-Natal High School and, of course, Creston College.

Last Saturday, national hockey players co-ordinated a hockey clinic for more than 200 players! The day also saw Playball demonstrations and fun pitch-and-play sessions, while every player received a participation certificate to remember this special day by.

National hockey player, Kaila-Ron Willemse (white and green kit) co-ordinates the hockey clinic with some of the players.

From the overall excitement, it was clear that our field may soon become the region’s preferred hockey field. We are sincerely grateful for the greater Curro Holdings team who helped us make this dream a reality. Also, as part of the Spar KZN hockey tournament, we will host the Sisonke and Ugu Regional hockey tournament on Sunday, April 23
