Good Samaritan saves man from drowning at Glenmore Beach
The Good Samaritan is commended for his brave actions.
A Good Samaritan saved the life of a man who was swept out to sea on Monday this week.
Port Edward duty crew were activated and responded to Glenmore Beach following reports of a drowning in progress.
On arrival on the scene, Gert du Plessis, NSRI Port Edward station commander, said crew found that a man had been assisted to shore by a Good Samaritan, who had launched on a longboard, taking with a pink rescue buoy.
It was by using the two floatation devices that he was able to rescue the man and bring him to shore.
“The rescued swimmer was in a serious condition, suffering non-fatal drowning symptoms. NSRI medical crew initiated medical treatment and oxygen therapy,” said du Plessis.
Kwa-Zulu Private Ambulance Services paramedics transported the man to hospital, and he has since been released from the hospital in good health.
