Taxi violence flares up in Port Shepstone CBD

Commuters are advised to be careful.

There has been an ongoing taxi feud between Bambanani and Gamalakhe taxi associations which has flared up and spilled over into the streets of Port Shepstone’s CBD.

Things got out of hand when yesterday (Monday) when the violence moved to Port Shepstone.

“It scares us to see them fight because once they start, they don’t stop and they try kill each other, or we get caught in the middle of this,” said a commuter, who did not want to be mentioned.

A motorist driving past said he was insulted by some taxi drivers for merely glancing in their direction.

And it seems they have flared up again this morning.

It is believed that these associations are fighting over various routes, including Marine Drive route and Margate.

Various commuters raised concerns on social media, saying how unsafe they felt.

It’s believed two taxi drivers had a fight, leading to one taxi being damaged.

It was reported that another taxi was damaged in the proximity of the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital, where windows were smashed and tyres slashed.

The situation became really tense as police were dispatched in and around the CBD.

Another incident occurred in Oslo where another taxi was smashed.

Yet another incident took place in Shelly beach last night.

Santaco declined to comment. No comment has been received from Saps, either.
