BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning in – Performing arts company needs new talent

Community news and events for Pennington and surrounding areas.

It’s the last newspaper for January 2023. One wonders where the month has gone, no prizes for guessing – into large puddles of perspiration, buckets of annoyance and anxiety due to low performing electricity supply! We know that February will be much the same – heat and electricity wise!

The community is invited by the Democratic Alliance to reject the 18.65% electricity tariff increase. You can do this today (January 25) at the Umzinto traffic lights from 12:00 to 12:30, at Park Rynie traffic lights from 13:00 to 13:30 and at Scottburgh traffic lights from 14:00 to 14:30.

The Pennington Rec Club is holding a market day at Relton Hall on February 4 from 09:00 to 12:00. There will be live music and some exciting stalls. Contact Karen Verleur on 082 7864971.

The Umkomaas Performing Arts Company (UMPAC) is recruiting for 2023. They are a group of individuals who are dedicated thespians who take delight and pride in performing for the community. They are looking for new talent, and participation is voluntary and done for the love of performing. For more information and to join, contact Lesley Fraser on WhatsApp on 082 7054857.
Operation adopt a room!

The management of Elders Voice has been brainstorming and trying to figure out why corporate companies and smaller companies won’t assist, even though the paperwork is in place.
There are about 100 bedrooms involved with the project, in different places including Pennington, Montclair and Umbilo.
A number of the rooms need revamping in order to feel like a special place for the ‘oldies’ to call home.
Elders Voice is asking 100 companies or families to partner with them, to adopt a room.
