Murder suspect denied bail

The murder victim was stabbed by her husband.

A 36-year-old man, who is believed to be a policeman, appeared in the Dududu Magistrate’s Court last Thursday on a murder charge.

It is alleged that the man fatally stabbed his wife in Mahwaqa Location, Dududu on January 2 at about 16:30.

“The suspects daughter found it strange that her mother was not getting ready to go to work on that fateful day and her father stopped her from entering the main bedroom,” said Scottburgh communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

“She then reached out to her grandfather who then alerted Dududu Saps.”

The murder suspect fled the scene. Information was gathered and police were able to track him down and arrest him the next day on January 3.

After his arrest and court appearance last week, community members were outraged and protested outside the court for the man not to be released on bail.

There were also outcries for justice for the victim and their message of “No to gender-based violence” was clear.

The suspect appeared yesterday (January 17) for a formal bail hearing. Bail was opposed and his next court appearance will be on February 15.

Detective Warrant Officer Yugen Moodley of the Provincial Organised Crime, Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has been assigned to investigate the serious crime.
